I was VT editor on this series, through the autumn of 1983. 30 years ago!

My main memories are the "Spanish Civil War" montage, which took ages, and the episode where Jan shot Diana's lover after falling through a ceiling, which was quite tricky to edit. Also a dream sequence in the next episode, where Jan relived the shooting. I expect it looks dated now, with indoor scenes on tape and exteriors on film.

In those days we editors didn't meet anyone else in the production except the directors and production assistants, and sometimes the producer. However Kevin McNally did pop in to see Rick Stroud once. I had the feeling that the show wasn't particularly loved by the higher-ups in the BBC Drama Dept, but I am not sure why. It may be that it was felt that we had produced too many "similar" shows just around that time. I was surprised that it was never repeated, because it was common at that time for actors etc to have a repeat written into their contract, which saved money on repeats.
